I have just bought my ticket to become one of the 16,000 expected to attend the largest ever film premiere. And I don’t have to go all the way to London. Our wonderful Tyneside Cinema in Newcastle will be one of over 70 cinemas round the UK simultaneously showing “The Age of Stupid”, the first major film drama about climate change.

Mind you, it would also be quite something to go to the first solar powered premiere – in a solar cinema tent in Leicester Square. But the green carpet arrivals and a post-film Q&A will be beamed round the UK via live satellite link-up, as well as streamed live to the Stupid website.

The climax of the evening will be the launch of the Not Stupid campaign with Pete Postlethwaite starting a giant countdown to the Copenhagen Climate Summit in December. Copenhagen really is what some are saying is the most important meeting in human history, where the successor to the Kyoto Treaty must be finalised. It really is our last chance. Not Stupid is “an epic mission to turn 250 million viewers into climate activists, all focused on making sure the deal agreed in Copenhagen is both just and truly as strong as the science demands.”

The film sounds excellent too! Pete Postlethwaite is a fantastic actor. Hard-hitting stuff, he plays an old man living alone in a devastated world of 2055, looking back to 2008 and asking why didn’t we stop climate change when we had the chance…
